b0rdalo_ii @vhils x @b0rdalo_ii COLLAB📍Chelas | Lisbon → New Edition Coming Soon!

@b0rdalo_ii X @vhils We made our first mural together a few weeks ago, in the context of the @cordechelass festival. Since we liked the result of combining our different techniques, we wanted to replicate this piece and do something more: two special editions with UD that will be released on the next July 3rd. b0rdalo_ii There’s a new rooster in town, and he’s close to 20 feet tall and kind of trashy.
Portuguese artist Bordalo II’s (@b0rdalo_ii) “Plastic Rooster” sits beside the New Bedford YMCA, the centerpiece of Massachusetts Design Art and Technology Institute’s (DATMA) “TRANSFORM: Reduce, Revive, Reimagine” public-art initiative through Oct. 14. The rooster will be around through 2029.
The sculpture was commissioned by DATMA (@_datma), which has partnered with local landfill management departments and the Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School to involve the community.
The artist’s characters, while lighthearted, carry messages about over-consumption and conservation. “With the big trash animals, it’s like you make portraits of the victims with what destroys them or their habitats,” he said.
